Workday

For all you job seekers out there, you will be experiencing the job application process based upon the same platform that many employers are using. No major issue with the technology but I am sure it leaves many of you wondering who designs and tests these things?

Frustration
Frustration!

Let's cut to the chase, because it's what you are probably all thinking.

Who wrote the agile use cases for workday...

1) As a candidate, I want to have to rewrite my CV into boxes that have been pre-filled filled by a system crossed between a random number generator and shredder in order that the recruiting team need not have the overhead of opening my CV.

2) As a candidate, I want the pre-fill system to ignore my education and make me enter it ensuring that I have to pick from a pre-determined list of degrees, none of which are matches for what I did, or pick 'other' without the ability to write what I did.

3) As a candidate, I want to spend 30 mins completing a process that should be doable in 5 because I have no other jobs to apply for this week and love typing in my CV over and over into clearly the same software package used by many.

4) As a candidate, I want to receive impersonal application rejections in an automated way that cannot be replied too because I have no need for any real feedback.

Ok, sarcasm may be the lowest form of wit, but this is the experience many are having with these packages. Skills are another one. On a number of systems, you have to select your skills. If you are quite experienced, you have many to enter. You are not allowed to just cut and paste your list in though; you have to do a look up match to a pre-defined set and then select one at a time. Its excruciatingly painful. We know why it's done, but come on software designers, have a heart.

These software solutions for recruitment need to go back to basics. Clearly only designed for the recruiter in mind (after all, they are paying for the licence fees) but in the next generation, please find a way to look at this through the eyes of the candidates.
